Making a difference

Melanesia Nazarene Bible College (MNBC) in Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea (PNG), has always faced a monumental task: to train pastors and teachers to minister in what is seen by anthropologists as one of the most culturally diverse nations on earth. With over 800 distinct languages, PNG has the largest number of different languages in any one country!  With such diversity even basic communication can be difficult at times! However, since its founding in 1964, MNBC has continued to send an ever-increasing number of trained workers into the vast Melanesia harvest fields.

MNBC’s residential program currently has over 157 students enrolled, with another 30 students enrolled in the extension programs taught by MNBC faculty, pastors, and district superintendents. The school currently offers a Diploma of Ministry and a Bachelor’s of Theology program as well as other certificate programs. All of these programs are designed to develop national leadership to meet the present and future needs of the Church of the Nazarene in this country and beyond. One of the goals of the Bible College is developing a sustainable national educational program to provide pastors and educators in our growing field.

MNBC’s monumental task has grown even larger as the PNG church has lifted its eyes to fields outside of its own country. In addition to sending missionaries to the Solomon Islands and East Timor and Vanuatu, there is a growing concern for the spiritual needs in the Papua Province of Indonesia.
In regards to the work being done at home in PNG, students and staff continue to plant churches and develop ministry centers across Papua New Guinea and have achieved wonderful results from their labor in the field.
